Fall 2022 President's Message

What a summer it was, with scorching temperates and now, rolling into fall, it's suddenly cold, wet and rainy.

Mother Nature is unpredictable, and yet we always hope to WALK.

Yet if we need to postpone an event, you will find updates on our Meetups, Eventbrite, and our FaceBook page and group. If in doubt about an event for which you’ve signed up, reach out to me or the walk leader.

WHAT'S NEW?

DMV FreeWalkers: What is DMV? It’s the abbreviation for District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia, and we’re excited to have our inaugural walk starting there on Saturday, October 22, 2022. Katey Lazarchik and Sarah Abedin will lead this walk. Learn More Here.

Allaire State Park: Victor Orlov, a new leader and regular FreeWalker, has designed a walk in Allaire State Park on Sunday, October 9. Join us to explore an area of Monmouth County that we haven’t yet walked. Details and Registration Here.

And finally, the KENNEDY50 is back on the calendar, and scheduled for Saturday, February 4, 2023. The cost is now $180, which includes our full support throughout the weekend. We’ve arranged a special price of $96/night with the Clarion Hotel in Harpers Ferry for our walkers. If you can walk 25-30 miles in one day, you’ve got a good shot at doing this one. And if you can’t finish, we will pick you up along the way and take you to the hotel. Sign up and start training; you still have four months. Learn More Here.

MORE NEWS!

FreeWalkers Mini-walks: Yes, we are a long-distance walking group; however, many of our walks do have shorter options. If a particular walk interests you but you only want to do some of it, simply ask, “Can I shorten this, and if so, how?” We’ll let you know where you can duck out if you choose.

FreeWalkers mission — to get more people walking. Our walks are never competitive, never a race, and are always welcoming to all who are willing to try to go the distance.

Keep on walking,

Risa Olinsky, President

We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit and though walking is free, maintaining the organization has costs. Donations of any amount are always appreciated!! You can donate here; donate at walks, or purchase our merchandise to support us. Every dollar helps us to continue providing great walks for you!
