No better way to spend Saturday March 30, National Take a Walk in the Park Day, than the Long Island Traverse. This year, we will be doing a true traverse of the Island from Cold Spring Harbor to the Great South Bay. This will be an approximately 25 mile walk through several local and state parks. As hard as it is to believe, there will be very limited walking on roads. We will be walking primarily on the white blazed Nassau-Suffolk Trail.

We will meet at the LIRR Cold Spring Harbor Train Station. There is a NY Penn Train that arrives at Cold Spring Harbor at 9:07am. From the Station, we will walk 3 miles north to the actual harbor. From there we will head south 18 miles to the Massapequa Train Station. We will pass through several parks including: Cold Spring Harbor State Park, Stillwell Woods, Bethpage State Park and the Massapequa Preserve.

Upon arrival in Massapequa, you may take a train back to Penn Station or continue two more mile (4round trip) to the Great South Bay.
