This is an AMC event to which FreeWalkers and all others are welcome, a repeat of last year's route. FreeWalkers will walk with Fran on a new route a week later on July 28th. Participants agree to a waiver and to remain with the group or report their departure from the walk to the walk leader.
This 12+ mile walk has it all - ocean, marsh, beach, harbor, river, and ethnic and downtown neighborhoods. Start with a visit to the annual Sand Sculpting Festival on Revere Beach, the nation’s first public beach; see marsh birds at Belle Isle, the last salt water marsh within Boston city limits; put your feet into the ocean at little Constitution Beach; experience the transitions of Boston’s traditional East Boston neighborhood, serving Italian and now Latin American immigrants, as well as an increasingly upscale population; check out the best view of the Boston skyline at Piers Park; take the Blue Line from Maverick Station under Boston Harbor and walk along its wharves; cross the Charles River over locks and dams; walk along the Charles River Basin through Paul Revere, North Point and Esplanade parks; cross the Back Bay neighborhood to the Boston Marathon finish line in Copley Square; and celebrate at the Solas Irish pub.
Start: We will meet at the upper level plaza that overlooks Revere Beach at the Wonderland Station of the MBTA Blue Line in Revere at 8:30 am. NOTE: There are many locations along the route, supported by MBTA, that make it easy to join or exit the walk.
Our local guide is Fran Price, a FreeWalker, Boston resident and dedicated walker firstname.lastname@example.org.
