MAPLEWOOD, NJ FreeWalkers, a long-distance walking group based in New Jersey, is hosting a special spring weekend of walking up to 38 miles on the East Coast Greenway. Thetwo-day scenic event will start in College Park, MD, and take walkers on local trails, through theheart of Washington, D.C., and to George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate in Virginia.

A busy walking weekend started with a 26.2-mile walking tour of Philadelphia with famed athlete Diana Nyad and her walking organization EverWalk. It ended with kids of all ages enjoying a stroll in the park along with music and fun games. We're spreading the good news about walking!

November 17th Hikes

On Saturday November 17, as part of National Take a Hike Day, FreeWalkers is challenging its members to hike 1,000 miles that day.  We have events at 5 locations:

  • George Washington Bridge/Palisades Park, NJ
  • Watchung Reservation, Mountainside, NJ
  • Schuylkill River Trail, Philadelphia, PA
  • Spanish Moss Trail, Beaufort, SC
  • Bay Area Walk, San Francisco, CA

You read right, we are expanding out of our normal MidAtlantic area with events in the low country of South Carolina and the Bay Area in Californ

Marathon March

The country holds an annual walking contest in which 100 teens must journey, non-stop and under strict rules, until only one of them is still standing alive to receive the prize.
