Last Saturday we walked from the Blockhouse in downtown Toms River to a little north of Asbury Park. We called it the TROT. Toms River to Ocean Township. Route is here: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/174753915
You can see where we stopped for bathroom or first aid and around 19 miles for Pizza and Ice cream on the Pt. Pleasant Boardwalk. I'll see if I can make the 50 mile walk coming up (logistics is biggest concern like getting back from NYC) and the other walks in September and October.
we made it! :) we made good time too. our official start time was 7:44am and finished at 6:30pm. but i have to say my experiences with freewalkers have been much nicer than my experiences with shorewalkers. i took tons of pics. i will load them tomorrow :)
Congrats on ODH! We did ODH the last 3 years. This year my plan was to do the Fans24 in MN on June 2 . http://www.fans24hour.org/
You walk/run as far as you can in 24 hours. I ended up on the injury list and couldn't train. Still battling the injury but hope to be in shape for next year. I hope to be able to join you on a walk soon!
Paul - it was a great day, and Metuchen was also quite interesting - I have to show you around sometime. When you have a chance do send me the code/instructions on how my flickr photos can be auto-posted to your group. Email in the book I give you. Thanks, Mike D.
i dont use anything other than this or facebook. i probably should load them someplace else so my friends that arent on fb or this site can see my pics. so how does flickr work?
I definitely would love to "walk" with you. (that's a very funny way of welcoming someone hahaha). I have a strategy for spreading the word fast, probably exponentially. If there are current members/walkers who are "church" kinds of people then they should start bringing it up there. If some current members are high school or college students close to the tri-state area, then that's the best place to start. First step, current member may start doing more, and I started working on this even before my first walk! Risa is doing a great job and she brought me here. An other little idea, shorter frequent walks will fit more people because most people I know (including myself) have very tight schedules and millions of things to do on weekends (necessities, not fun things).
Paul - Thank you very much! I'm looking forward to meeting you this weekend, and to the walk itself. And yes, I am David's daughter. And I swear, only half of what he said is true.
Thanks Paul! I'm looking forward to some more long distance hikes! I did the One Day Hike in the DC area in 2010 and 100K in less than a day was quite an experience!
That would be great. We have a fundraising page, but I wasn't sure what the rules are about posting on this. That would be great if I could spread the link. This disease has affected us close to home. I included the link below.
Just a few days ago, I noticed, maybe for the first time, the sounds of the Great Canal Walk. For most of the 40 miles and 15 hours that day there was an absence of sound in this body of water as still as glass on that calm day....
