Does this sound familiar? But for walking?
Italian racewalking champion Alex Schwazer admitted to taking performance enhancing drugs in the run-up to the London Olympics, a potentially career-ending move that led to his exclusion from the Games.
At his first news conference since testing positive for the drug erythropoietin, or EPO, at the end of July, Mr. Schwazer detailed his fall from grace. Wiping away tears, the athlete recounted a trip he took to Turkey to procure the drug and his efforts to conceal the doping from his fiancée, Italian skater Carolina Kostner.
"I wasn't thinking clearly. I wanted everything. And now I've lost everything," Mr. Schwazer said in the Italian Alpine town of Bolzano, near his home.
