Saying Goodbye to ‘Walking Man,’ With a Walk

Interesting walker story. Marc Abrams, who died Wednesday, had been a near-daily presence for decades, walking the hilly streets of the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles. Group of neighbors organize walk in his memory.

A friend who still lives in L.A. responded to my posting on Facebook (I put the NYT link up) by saying he also used to see him everywhere in the neighborhood until recently. It's funny but I couldn't figure out if he was perhaps a "special needs" individual -- he seemed almost autistic in his single mindedness. It's only from this article that I now know that he did have a "regular" life after all! But then again, is any life really "regular?"!

Hi and welcome Sherri. Its a small world. He must have been an interesting character. I love his persistence and attitude and that he was so admired in the community.

Thank you so much for posting this! I lived in Los Feliz and Silver Lake for 9 years and as an avid walker I so clearly remember Dr. Abrams. I'm shocked to hear of his death and sorry to hear of the strife that may have led up to it. This posting and the NYT article really took me back to my own years of sweating it out in the hot L.A. sun walking up and down the neighborhood hills and around the reservoir -- often crossing paths with Dr. Abrams.
