Motorists learn 'the hard way' about new pedestrian crosswalk law with police decoys
Since April of this year, the new pro-pedestrian law requires cars to stop within designated pedestrian crossings or face a $200 fine, court costs and 2 points against the driver's record. Now, the state Division of Highway Traffic Safety is providing grants from $10,000 to $12,000 in 2010-11 to several North Jersey police departments to run decoy programs where cops act as pedestrians to catch scofflaw drivers.
