NJ2NY50 - The Big Walk - 2013 at Metropark, Iselin NJ to Penn Station New York

May 18, 2013 from 6am to 10:30pm
This is our fourth annual super distance walk and our premier challenge event. We average about 60 participants with usually less than 10 going the entire distance. We're looking to do a repeat this year only bigger with more finishers.NOTE: In a recent decision this year "The Big Walk" is the "Not as Big Walk" due to damage done in Liberty State Park - usually a 7-mile loop which has been eliminated. Access to walking is still restricted so the usual 50-mile walk has been shortened to…See More

The Great Manhattan Bridge Walk

A special thanks to Paul Kiczek for recommending this walk. It proved to be another worthy event in the great sport of adventure walking. The Great Manhattan Bridge WalkLast week my friend Jeff and I tackled The Great Manhattan Bridge Walk, a thirty some mile adventure that zigzagged it's way to and from Manhattan across sixteen or so bridges. The walk started at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge, in Manhattan, sponsored by a group called the Shore Walkers.(A public service announcement - we got…See More

The Big 50 Mile Walk

On Friday night I sat in Old Man Rafferty's in Asbury Park, dining on my pre-walk meal of roast beef au ju and french fries, watching the crowds walk to the Bamboozle Concert, on their way from the train station to the beach. It made me think of my clubs and affiliations - the Society of Actuaries, the Jersey Shore Running Club, and now tomorrow, the New Jersey Free Walkers, all seemingly in quest of destinations far, far away. I really need to get in with some cool groups that need only walk a…See More

The Sounds of a Long Walk

Just a few days ago, I noticed, maybe for the first time, the sounds of the Great Canal Walk. For most of the 40 miles and 15 hours that day there was an absence of sound in this body of water as still as glass on that calm day....
