| Walker | Thoughts and comments | Suggestions |
| Jeffrey Bernstein | This was a great walk particularly the boardwalk portions. | None |
| Jeff Gatto | Well planned as always! Thanks for setting it up Paul, and the bar at the end was just right to relax at. | |
| Rebecca Gwinnell | Better map. | Would have like to have more support of the group> i know everyone hikes at their own pace but seemed like everyone kind of did their own thing. We were familiar with the area and still had some difficulty |
| Ian Hochstead | This event is my favorite Free Walkers event so far. Unlike the other Free Walkers events, this event was new and unique (at least to me). To clarify, the Great Canal Walk is the best example of an event that is "stale" (not at all new and unique (to me)). Many other groups do walks on the D & R Canal, annually, or even more frequently, and the Free Walkers Canal walk seemed redundant. | It would great if an additional restroom location could be identified between the start and the recreation center. The Dixie Lee Bakery has no restroom and neither did a 7/11 we passed between the trail and Dixie Lee. Along similar lines, it would be informative if the available public restrooms in Long Branch and Asbury Park could be listed for reference. |
| Nancy Jonap | I loved my walk from Redbank. I could lead that one next year for those who want a shorter walk and later start | It's a too early start for walkers without cars and/coming from outside the NJ area. Timing was perfect (sunrise to sunset). If done earlier in the late summer maybe the walk can start at 8:30. Or, perhaps we can get a group rate (reduced) for a motel the night before? |
| Paul Kiczek | It was a great scenic walk. A mixture of natural environment with shore towns and resorts. Totally flat which allowed more walkers to complete the entire distance. Luckily, even the weather cooperated. | Skip through Keansburg. Make a 6-mile rest stop at Port Monmouth. |
| Linda McCormick | Like having designated pathways for walking and not having to worry about cars driving by. The bridge was challenging for me (I'm terrified of bridges) but all in all, it was great. | |
| J McCormick | Remember the place in Keansburg was not very friendly. Other than that it was good. | |
| Brian Nicoletti | Excellent scenery, great attitude from the group, logistically perfect. | No suggestions, but if possible, when making the tags, could you make one for my wife Brooke as well? Same info as me (she is not registered and did not get the survey link). Thank you! |
| Steve Nix | ("tongue-in-cheek", but some might like this suggestion) -- Have the walk in early September, turn north at Sandy Hook, walk to the 1st beach with shower facilities, schedule a 1-2 hour lunch break on the beach (find a volunteer to bring towels, sandwiches and drinks?), and we could swim, stretch our tired muscles and re-energize for the remainder of the walk. You wouldn't have to worry about people quitting there, because there are no trains or buses available there! After a swim and a shower, the last part of the walk would feel a lot better! | |
| Risa Olinsky | I would do this again i a blink... loved the route, the people and the whole day... sorry no complaints. | Nope... just wish the train ran at 7:45 pm so we could have stopped for a drink - but WE HAVE no control over NJ Transit!!! |
| Vincent Palochko | Excellent walk, excellent scenery, and met some truly great people along the way. I have nothing but great experiences with your walks! | |
| Ron Palochko | Wish we could do this every week, except my wife would probably kill me. Keep up the excellent work! | Hard to improve on perfection. This was a most rewarding experinece on several levels. Throoughly enjoyed the experience and can't wait for the next event. Can't do the Lenape, unfortunately, but would love a winter walk. (not for the faint of heart). Thanks Paul for all your efforts in making this happen. |
| Virginia J. Petrucci | A wonderful experience and a pat on my back. We daydreamed of the beautiful homes along the way, had many laughs and thought of beer, our reward. | A moving sidewalk! |
| Joanne Reinhardt | This was the first time I’ve participated in anything like this. Although I do walk, never have I walked for 30 miles before. First I would thank Paul for such a great job in organizing the event, keeping everyone posted and for the info on the website. Although I was very nervous when I first decided to do this as time went on and I received feedback from Paul and comments from other participants I became much more comfortable with the idea of doing this. It never occurred to me when I decided to do this that I wouldn’t do the entire thing but must say when I received the email stating various places one could stop if so desired it did give me a comfort level. Another bonus for having done this was the opportunity to meet such wonderful people. By the time we finished the walk I really felt that I had made some great “walking” friends and hope to have the opportunity to walk with many of them again. Thank you Paul and everyone that participated for making this such a wonderful experience! | Maybe when I do it a few more times something might come to mind but I think from the second I thought about doing this until I completed it everything was perfect. |
| Alex Rodriguez | The walk was a great personal challenge for myself and the other two in my group. I only wish we continued walking with a larger group but our decision to begin at the half way point was a factor in walking in a small group for most of our distance completed. | To increase club membership consider asking chiropractors, personal trainers, home school students and other doctors to recommend club to their patients. I would also encourage members to walk in larger groups if possible to increase visibility of FreeWalkers during events and stir up interest in joining. |
| Rose Stallmeyer | It was a personal challenge and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. | |
| Deborah Villanueva | It was a wonderful experience. I met some wonderful people and truly challenged myself. It definately exceeded my expectations!! |

Just a few days ago, I noticed, maybe for the first time, the sounds of the Great Canal Walk. For most of the 40 miles and 15 hours that day there was an absence of sound in this body of water as still as glass on that calm day....
