Walker Thoughts and Comments  Suggestions
Albert Walker I got ahead of the support.  would have been great to re-fill at the 20 mile point.
Amy Hebard I've learned I have a limit beyond which things move from fun to pushing it...I think I'm going to make 25 miles my goal to avoid injury I wish i could think of something, Paul, but nothing comes to mind!  You are a fabulous organizer and I really appreciate all you do.  Having said that, I wonder if a charitable option might be offered - as it is, this feels almost a little selfish - it benefits me, but who else?
Angela F. McKoy Loved it!  Especially thanks to Mike who drove our aching bodies back to the car.
Charlena Sears Could not ask for a better day or a warmer, more welcoming experience.  The support provided by the group and the Greenway was greatly appreciated.
Cory Storch
David Ascher The rest stops were great but we should have monitored and encouraged ourselves to take shorter rests.
Deanna Johnson It was very well organized, supported & enjoyable.  Andrew of East Coast Greenway also provided lots of historic information about the area including some ecological highlights. Let future walkers know that they can carry less food if future walks will be as well supported as this one.
Donna Ellis Snacks were a real treat!
Hao Men was really a good route, thank you Paul!
James Weber Great job!  Thanks for organizing!  I was excited to walk the portion in Trenton to Lawrence. Never did that. 1) I would have liked to register without having to "Join" the site and set up a profile -- so I just showed up. 2) I'm not a long walker, so my view is biased by that 3) Some folks had trouble figuring out where to get mid-point transit, although that could be determined via most mapping sites. 4) I would have been interested to learn more about the canal history, trail history and EC Greenway.  Not sure how to do that within the context of a hike, but hyperlinks on the site that point to resources might be useful.
Jane A. Jones I was encouraged to go with my friend...and loved it. Water station earlier on
Jay and Patricia Freeman Paul is doing a great service to walking enthusiasts in NY and NJ.  We thank him for all his efforts.
Kelly Bleach I'll know to walk a little slower next time.  My friend and I were afraid we'd get lost and followed a crowd much faster than we were.  But it was a good challenge--I didn't realize I could maintain that pace for so long.
Ken Koch It was a most challenging event.
Linda Midolo Lovely walk
Loretta Rice I loved the walk and in retrosect, could have walked further.  The participants and the general "vibe" of the group are both outstanding.  One walker suggested to me that more frequent breaks would have been helpful but I can't comment on that as I didn't walk very far.  It was gratifying to see the number of non-participants stop to ask walkers if we were walking for a cause.  I wasn't sure if the ECG was the 'cause' but I did mention it when asked. T-shirts!  While not ideal to walk in, I'm always up for buying a commemorative t-shirt; if costs were low, maybe any "profit" could be donated to ECG or used to cover your expenses.
Lynn Jacobs I would like a walk of 15 miles.
Lynn Jacobs I was relaly suprised that I could walk 21 miles.  The company and support was great.
Maureen Carman The support staff was FANTASTIC!!!!
Michael Chidzik The D&R canal was a great place to walk!
Nadeem M. Firoz very enjoyable, because of no cause and free.   You come just for your own sake Reduce the distance to 26-27 miles,  “the marathon distance”. It is discouraging for some not to make it through.
Nancy Jonap I always love to walk with Paul!
Paul Kiczek It was a great event. Lots of participation and terrific support by the East Coast Greenway. The walking surface was perfect. More portajohns at the beginning. Better trail choices at night after Landing Lane in New Brunswick.
Qichen Wang hiking boots definitely
Risa The good thing about the trail was you could not get lost -- that was great.
Risa Olinsky It was a beautiful day, experience and challenge.  I would gladly do it again - but would wear different shoes.  I did not need my hiking boots - but I didn't realize that in advance.
stephen kornstein Breaks were too long.
Steve Nix From the 13 mile point to around 18, the breaks were too numerous and too long.  But it was GREAT to have the kids there to hand out snacks and water. Not speaking for everyone, of course, but for me, the ideal breaks for a  50 miler would occur at mile 12 (10 minutes), mile 19 (10 minutes), mile 25 (30 min. lunch), mile 33 (10 min.), mile 40 (15 minutes), mile 46 (10 minutes), on to finish 50.
Yon Lee better timing on finish times so that people realize that it takes 14-15 hours or even longer to finish. letting people know that they must log in before and after the walk so people can see  what time they started and what time they finished.

The Sounds of a Long Walk

Just a few days ago, I noticed, maybe for the first time, the sounds of the Great Canal Walk. For most of the 40 miles and 15 hours that day there was an absence of sound in this body of water as still as glass on that calm day....
