Walker Thoughts and Comments Suggestions
AL WALKER Excellent weather for all three cross Jersey walks this year.  Way to go Paul! Fortunately there were many places to buy water on this walk.
BARBARA RALL Really enjoyed chatting with other participants as we walked along. Loved the route, much of it close to my home. Map for every participant is a must.  Would appreciate regrouping efforts or help table at various stopping points.  Would be willing to pay entry fee for the service.
BRIAN SANCHEZ I enjoy the challenges of long distance events and had a good time doing this walk. I would probably do other walks in the future but not necessarily the same walk. Thanks for running the event. Better signage of the ECG would be nice so there would be no need for a map.
CHARLENA SEARS It was amazing walking through different neighborhoods getting to know a great group of people on a perfect day.
CORY FRISCO An organized stop to regroup and tighten the pack of walkers would be helpful.  People kept walking disregarding the schedule.  Breaks which are too long caused my body to stiffen dramatically.  Maybe a lightweight runners vest or something to designate our group of walkers and cause would be helpful to identify fellow walkers.  More clearly printed maps, and/or larger, full-page maps of sections would be helpful.  Keeping the step-by-step direction consistent throughout the map direction would be helpful. If the number grows, I would be willing to pay a small fee to help out with anything we need.  I would also be willing to volunteer services and time to make the experience better.
CYNTHIA DEMMER we end these too late at night and not in the best of areas, I worry about safety. a step by step direction sheet with road names on it instead of maps. This would avoid missed or missing Greenway signs and errors that can get you very lost.
DAGMAR HOBSON It was great to be able to join the walk and drop out of the walk at so many entrance and exit points
DEBBIE BIELICKA I enjoyed the walk very much. I'm in awe of all the walkers who made it to the end or who came close.
DIANE GLACE Great group to walk with. Keep up the great work~~
DIANE GLACE It was fun, walked with a great group of folks, felt better about directions this segment!  Thanks for making this possible.
DIIANA KNOUS For out of staters --- it was easy to get lost at times. Never got more than a mile to back track, but with 50 miles those last few hurt : -) if there was a way to avoid the bad parts of jersey. I'm glad my husband was there to protect me.
DOUGLAS KNOUS Good people and the main stops were well spaced. Better Maps
ELIZABETH MCCOY the portion that I walked was very lovely and had lots of parkland.  union county did a great job with their part of the greenway. not really
FRANCES SANCHEZ Passing Train stations along the way was a huge bonus, making it easy for walkers to meet up with a group or to bail out if necessary.  I never intended to walk the whole distance so I had a great day.  I walked around in the city from 10 am - 8 pm waiting for my husband to arrive via the Path.  I got to do a lot of site seeing!  Plus was able to participate in the walk at a level I was comfortable with.  Next time I would walk to the first train stop 12 miles out in Cranford and then finish up from the Trade Center.  Thanks for all the planning! None that I can think of.
GLORIA FRANCO I enjoyed the whole journey. The routes were full of diversity. New scenery if plan for 2013.
IAN HOCHSTEAD 1) Continue with ECG improvements. For example, signs are still missing or unclear at multiple critical points.  2)  Eliminate the PATH train ride as part of the walk.    I would end the walk at Hoboken or even Fort Lee.  3)  Eliminate Liberty State Park.  It isn't part of the  official ECG.  Yes, the views are spectacular but one can see the same views walking on the waterfront path between Exchange Place and Hoboken, which is part of (or at least is parallel to) the ECG.
JANE EDGE It was great and opened up parats of new jersey I wasn't aware existed. not at the moment
JAZLYN SEARS It was amazing walking through different neighborhoods getting to know a great group of people on a perfect day.
JEFF The earlier sections were greener than I thought they would be. I've seen some parks I never would have stopped at any other way. Hard to ask since it's a free event but I could have used more ways to get water.
JEFF GATTO It was my first time finishing it, and it was great to see so much of the state. Nope, I like it like it is.
JEN WOOLERY I have to say I didn't enjoy this walk as much. Definitely a difficult path to follow and not necessarily very "pretty" but I set a goal for myself and I accomplished it so that feels great.  Liberty State Park was beautiful but not necessarily good for my mental state as I was getting sore and tired and I knew that I was just walking in a big circle
JENNIFER CHAKY Mike with the van of snacks was EXCELLENT!
JOHN DEMMER INSTEAD OF MAP USE A STEP BY STEP LIST WITH APROX MILEAGE TO NEXT TURN
MARIA AUSTIN I had a great time seeing all the greenways and lovely towns while covering miles most, if not all people would certainly drive to. Thank you for creating an enjoyable way to challenge myself. I'm looking forward to the next walk.
MICHAEL L DORN See my post on Meetup.com None
NANCY JONAP # of breaks are good but maybe shorter?
PAUL KICZEK Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Great large group of enthusiastic walkers. The weather was warm but still perfect throughout the day. Support from ECGA, Koenig-Russo, and Harsimus Embankment made it special. We should strongly advise walkers to stay in groups, especially in a couple potentially troubling areas. An attempted theft of a camera was narrowly avoided.
RICK VEGH Very enjoyable, and challenging. Have more meeting places or aid stations, even if it means charging a fee to be used to cover the cost.
RISA OLINSKY Well, thinking maybe next year I will start later and go for doing some of the walk I haven't done yet and end up finishing later.b Love the new section of the Greenway...
RON PALOCHKO Tremendous overall experience.  Challenge was more than formidable and swore on Saturday that I would never do it again.   Woke up on Sunday and can't wait until next year when I will participate again. Some support was lacking, particularly when I was among the lead group and support was about 1/2 hour away when we arrived at Weequahic Park.
SIVA KUMAR I loved it thank you We should try and stay together as a group for as long as possible, at points through out the walk we should try and meet each other, so that the event feels more commune.
SUE LUCAS I totally enjoyed the entire walk!!
YON LEE Better pathway along the Route 1 & 9.

The Sounds of a Long Walk

Just a few days ago, I noticed, maybe for the first time, the sounds of the Great Canal Walk. For most of the 40 miles and 15 hours that day there was an absence of sound in this body of water as still as glass on that calm day....
