Trace the towpath footsteps of the Delaware & Raritan Canal, a 175 year old waterway across Central New Jersey - from Trenton to New Brunswick. The TR2NB40 - Great Canal Walk, a 40-mile, one -day long distance walk, is a superb physical and mental challenge and the first long segment in a series of three walking events aiming to walk across New Jersey following the East Coast Greenway.
The FreeWalkers are partnering again with the East Coast Greenway on a program for 2013 called the Cross-Jersey Walking Challenge which sets a goal of walking the 100 miles of the ECG, across the entire State, at any time during the year.
This event is free and open to the public.

Comment by Charles on April 12, 2013 at 8:19pm It was an incredible challenging event! I hope everyone is fine after the 40 milers! Thank you Paul and GreenWay for making this possible! Also thanks to everyone that were there. I had a great time walking with so many of you! The four of us, Eileen, Henry, Pete and Charles arrived at New Brunswick at 6.20 pm. We were exhausted but excited! With a bruised bone and blisters on my feet, I have to learn how to be more efficient with my walking for the 50 milers that is coming up. I came across Chi Walking which I think will be a great help for all my future walks. You can check out some of the video at YouTube and see if it will do anything for you. I hope this will be helpful. See you at the next walk!
Comment by Paul Kiczek on April 7, 2013 at 10:13am Congrats to everyone who made it and to those that fell short. It's a worthy tough challenge and my hat's off it everyone for their efforts. I pulled into New Brunswick at 10pm, exhausted of course but with enough energy for a beer and burger.

Look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.
Comment by Risa olinsky on April 5, 2013 at 1:45pm I'm in from Trenton to Griggstown - where i will leave my car. Thank you to Karen helping me to this. If there is anyone who wants to finish at Griggstown with me and is coming from the Maplewood/Millburn/South Orange area, I'm happy to drive you home...
Comment by Karen Rose Tank on April 5, 2013 at 1:43pm I will be dropped off in Trenton with Risa and plan to walk Trenton to Turning Basin. Will go farther if I am feeling OK... My left hamstring is acting up... just had a massage so will see what tomorrow brings.

Just a few days ago, I noticed, maybe for the first time, the sounds of the Great Canal Walk. For most of the 40 miles and 15 hours that day there was an absence of sound in this body of water as still as glass on that calm day....
