A new 15- to 21-mile springtime walk clear across Long Island
Join the FreeWalkers on our first Long Island walk, a journey through urban areas and springtime nature in bloom along the Nassau Suffolk Trail from the Massapequa Train Station northward to Cold Spring Harbor. We will walk off road through the Massapequa Preserve, Bethpage State Park, Trailview State Park, Stillwell Woods and Cold Spring Harbor State Park. The south shore of Long Island is flat. As we go north, we will encounter some short hills. At mile 15, we reach the Cold Spring Harbor Train Station and you can either end your walk there or continue for three of the most scenic and hilly miles all the way to the harbor. We then turn and walk back to the Cold Spring Harbor Station for a total of 21 miles.
For those coming from New Jersey or New York City, take the 7:55 am train from Penn Station towards Babylon arriving at Massapequa at 8:55 am. The NJ Transit Morris/Essex train arrives at Penn Station at 7:39 am and the NE Corridor train arrives at 7:35.
