As luck would have it, my research on snowshoeing led me to the always interesting Pyramid Mountain in Boonton where I found out that not only can you rent snowshoes there but they are having a moon-lit walk on Tuesday evening at 5 until 7:30 pm.
With any luck we can catch a winter sunset followed by a view of the full moon – if all goes well we may even hear some owl calls.
With sufficient snow on the trails, you can bring your own snowshoes or rent a pair of ours for this evening trek. This is one of the few places where you can rent and try out snowshoes for a small fee.
Please arrive between 4:30p and 4:45p to get fitted for snowshoes and fill out Morris County Park Commission paperwork.
Program Time: 5 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Location: Pyramid Mountain in Montville
Cost: $5 per person/ $10 including snowshoe rental
Register by phone: pre-registration is necessary call Morris County Park Commission, Douglas Vorolieff at 973-334-3130.
Hope to see you there. Apres-snowshoeing options possible.
BTW - dress light layers, headlamp (optional), trekking poles if you have them, fairly sturdy shoes or boots, gators are helpful but not necessary
(looks like I can't make this one after all but may be others in the weeks ahead. Check with Douglas at the park for more info. - Paul)
