Having crossed NJ from NYC to Trenton in our Cross-Jersey Challenge, we're looking to see what its like from a different angle with the new XNJ2 (cross-Jersey2) challenge, a direct west to east route from Easton, PA (Phillipsburg, NJ).
The Cross-Jersey Challenge 2
This new route starts just across the Delaware in Easton PA where we cross over to Phillipsburg and make our way to Bloomsbury, Clinton, High Bridge, Chester Morristown, West Orange, Newark, Jersey City and NYC. This walk is the first segment of this new route across NJ. For more info >> Crossjerseywalk.org.
Bloomsbury to High Bridge (Segment 2) - 14 miles
Like our 1st segment, Easton to Bloomsbury, (Mar 6) this next segment will require some logistics and at least 2 cars involved. The plan is to start walking at Casola's 39 Church St in Bloomsbury (where we left off). But, we will need at least one car parked in High Bridge (end). At the end, we will carpool back to Bloomsbury where we started. The drive between Bloomsbury to High Bridge is only 20 minutes.
This particular event from Bloomsbury to High Bridge is about 14 miles on a mixed terrain with 1/3 roadside and 2/3 on designated trails with some elevation and rolling hills.
The first 3 miles are mostly on county roadside with a fairly wide shoulder until Jugtown Mountain Preserve.
We pick up the Highlands Trail which crosses Rt173 and leads into the Preserve toward Clinton and Spruce Run Reservoir.
This is a good day-walk workout in a beautiful country area. To see a map of the entire XNJ2 planned walking route click here for the X-state route (final section TBD).
We will work out logistics for parking and carpooling a few days before the event date. Let us know if you would be willing to help shuttle walkers before or after the event.
