Several members of NJ Freewalkers will meet at Duke Farms on Saturday, February 1, 2014, for an approximate 15-mile walk through the 2742 acre estate. This is one of the largest privately-owned open spaces in New Jersey and is open to the public year-round. The property has 18 miles of walking and bicycling trails, woodlands, meadows, horticultural exhibits and lakes. Best of all- the grounds are closed to vehicular traffic. We will meet inside the Duke Farms Orientation Center at 9:15 a.m.
Duke Farms is located at 1112 Dukes Parkway West, Hillsborough, N.J. 08844 (phone: 908-722-3700
). After (or during) our walk, we will eat at Mallery's Eatery (located in the Orientation Center), which features a variety of locally grown organic foods. Those who wish to join us are encouraged to visit www.dukefarms.org
for directions and additional information.
Note: Duke Farms is located approximately 3 miles from Somerville Train Station (Raritan Valley Line).
IMPORTANT: this walk will be subject to cancellation due to inclement weather (snow, rain, extreme cold).
If anyone has questions or needs a ride from the Somerville Train Station, please contact Bob Quinlan via e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org
Update (1/29/14): Most of the trails at Duke Farms are in excellent condition- clear of snow and ice. Saturday looks like the warmest day we have had in awhile: temperatures expected in the mid-40's.
