Here's the latest information on the Tour of Brooklyn:
This is a walk that looks like about 8 miles - mostly in Brooklyn Heights and Cobble Hill areas. Nancy Jonap will be our guide. The pace will be easy. Our objective is to meet at 11:00 at City Hall Park, brief everyone and get walking by 11:30.
The walk's start is at City Hall Park Fountain near the Brooklyn Bridge. This year we will visit Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill and Carroll Gardens. Then we head back toward the Atlantic Ave (near Barclay's Center) and to our final destination at Sud Vino e Cucina at 1102 Bedford Ave. (718.484.8474) - a wine bar and restaurant in the heart of Brooklyn between 4-5 p.m. There is a subway stop a few blocks away to take us back to Manhattan. The pace will be slower than usual. You may walk on your own or at a different pace if you prefer.
Important Travel tip:
PATH trains will not available to/from the World Trade Center on 11/17/2013 due to maintenance. To get to (NYC) City Hall from Jersey take 33rd St PATH To get to (NYC) City Hall from Jersey take 33rd St PATH to 9th or Penn Station and subway or walk from there. There will be a group of us walking from Penn starting 10:00 a.m. and walking to City Hall Park to meet with the starting group.
If you plan on walking with the group (optional, of course) from Penn Station to City Hall Park it's about 2.5 miles extra. Be there by 10:00 a.m. to allow an hour for walking downtown. We will meet at the Starbucks (212) 967-2041 at 370 7th Avenue between 30-31 streets. Just leave Penn Station and turn right and go a couple blocks. (Note: I may have previously mentioned another Starbucks on Broadway - please disregard that one).
Our walking tour will include the Brooklyn Bridge, waterfront and the promenade in Brooklyn Heights. We'll walk past the oldest home in Brooklyn, Harry Chapin Park, 19 Cranberry St ( where they filmed Moonstruck - Cher & Nick Cage) and the former homes of Arthur Miller, Marilyn Monroe, and the home of Truman Capote where he wrote Breakfast at Tiffany's. The walk will include a leisurely stroll through interesting areas of Cobble Hill and Carroll Gardens before heading to Atlantic Avenue along Court and Smith Streets.
Last year we had a couple drinks and a variety of small plates to try at Sud Vino e Cucina.
BTW - Sud Vino e Cucina is cash bar. ATM is available inside.
Event is free. After-party is Dutch. Invite friends and family. Sign up here.
