Do you wish summer would never end? The FreeWalkers have found a way to push the boundaries of that season by declaring September 22 this year to be our last summer day and one that is sure to be a great one for a final summer-like walk. Last year's 2011 event was voted the overall favorite FreeWalker event of the year!
The bay2ocean30 is a unique long distance walk along the interesting and beautiful New Jersey coast. We start at Keyport in the bay area and work out way east to Sandy Hook then south along the ocean all the way down to Asbury Park for a total of nearly 30 miles - all in one day.
This year we will be supporting a great local charity called Elijah's Promise, a Central New Jersey food pantry service that's so much more! Eastern Mountain Sports - our event sponsor is providing drawing prizes for several lucky winners and a deluxe rest stop in Long Branch.
Check out the updated Route/ Mileage & Schedule section of our event http://bit.ly/bay2ocean30 for the latest information on our schedule and plan for the day.

Comment by Charlena Sears on September 22, 2012 at 9:40pm Paul, thanks for an amazing walk on a perfect summer day. After a 30 minute power nap on the beach at Sea Bright, Jazlyn and I made our way to Pier Village in Long Branch where we hung out before taking the train back to Matawan. We meandered along the beaches and stopped to take in the breathtaking details. See you soon. Charlena

Good idea on the bike. It would take some planning but could be done, esp if you are coming from the south. The bike ride back could be shorter if you head straight back to Matawan - not sure of best, most direct roads back.
Comment by Paul on July 18, 2012 at 2:09pm Depending on your direction of travel to the event you can leave a car at the starting point and a bicycle at the end point and ride back to your car. It uses different muscles and adds to the challange.

Comment by Risa olinsky on January 3, 2012 at 6:40am Well, surely do to want to rush the summer, but it will be nice to have this to look forward to when the summer is past.

Just a few days ago, I noticed, maybe for the first time, the sounds of the Great Canal Walk. For most of the 40 miles and 15 hours that day there was an absence of sound in this body of water as still as glass on that calm day....
