Looking for an extreme winter adventure? Join us for our 4th annual reprise of Robert F. Kennedy's 50-Mile walk along the C&O Canal Saturday February 4, 2017 from Great Falls, Maryland to Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.
On February 9, 1963, Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy walked from Great Falls, Maryland to Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. The journey was initialized by his brother, President John F. Kennedy, who had reiterated an earlier 50 mile military walking challenge of President Teddy Roosevelt.
Now, we've recreated the same walk at the same place and roughly the same time each year.
This year we are offering a fully supported walk and options with van service, sag stations and pick up service if you can't make 50. We have several great support plans for you to choose from if you wish to participate - including a full support package with overnight stay near the start to just sag support and van service returning Saturday night. We hope to make this and economical, high-quality support event you will remember.
The event starts this year at the Anglers Inn C&O Parking area across from the Anglers Inn, Potomac, Maryland. We pick up the C&O Canal towpath right there. The same flat trail we will continue to Harpers Ferry before crossing the river and ending the last mile up the hill in Harpers Ferry.
Available Event Tickets:
We recommend staying at the Econo Lodge in Harpers Ferry. Take advantage of our group rate there under "FreeWalkers". Or, book your own stay in another motel, B&B or airbnb location in or near Harpers Ferry.
A return ride service is available Saturday night at additional cost ($15) as an option, but you must book in advance when you register as we cannot otherwise guarntee space for the ride.
See the event website kennedy50.org for more details and background on this event. This event has no rain date and will only be cancelled for extreme weather conditions. Sorry, no refunds provided under any circumstances.
